About My World of Learning

My World of Learning is a non-profit organization administered by a volunteer Board of Directors. The centre was established in 1994 and moved to its current location at the Nova Scotia Community College campus in 2001.

The facility is licensed by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and inspected by Fire, Health and Early Childhood Development inspectors.

Location

My World of Learning is located on the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) – Truro Campus on Arthur Street in Truro in the secure residence building, Davis Hall.

Hours of Operation

Monday to Friday: 7:30 am – 5:15 pm
open year-round except holidays, one week for professional development/maintenance typically the last week in July and the days between the Boxing Day holiday and New Year’s Day holiday (In 2023, we are closed from July 29-August 2, 2024 and December 27, 30 & 31, 2024)

Fee Information

My World of Learning charges $36 per day for full-week care, $39 per day for part-week care.  The Province of Nova Scotia is reducing fees by paying a portion directly to the centre resulting in the reduced parent rate below.

Fees will be charged based on a child’s enrollment status and actual age as defined in the Early Learning Child Care Act and Regulations. “toddler” means a child who is between 18 months old and 35 months old, inclusive; “preschooler” means a child who is 36 months old or older and is not attending school; “school-age child” means a child who is attending school and is not older than 12 on December 31 of the school year.

Subsidy Program

The day care accepts children who have subsidy seats. We encourage parents to apply to the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development for a  subsidy seat. If families meet the eligibility criteria, the government will assist families with child care expenses.

Parent committee meetings are open to all parents of children enrolled at the centre. Parents will receive written notice of parent committee meetings a minimum of 2 weeks before the meeting. Parents interested in joining the Parent Committee can contact the Executive Director.

A parent committee may discuss any matters of interest or concern to the parents, including the following: (a) the safety, care and well-being of the children; (b) the status of facility’s license; (c) the programs provided by the centre; (d) the equipment and materials available to children; (e) staffing patterns and staff qualifications.

Staff

My World of Learning’s staff members consists of full-time Educators (Holly Brown also Child Care Supervisor, Crystal Gordon, Jaime Meredith, Savleen Kaur, Atasha Wilton and Calla Dunlop also Assistant Child Care Supervisor, Rheanna MacDonald), an Inclusion Coordinator (Jennifer MacKay also Assistant Executive Director), a full-time Cook/Cleaner (Robin Warren), a Substitute Early Childhood Educators Mariah MacNeil and Kelly Estabrooks and full-time Executive Director (Natasha Doreen Moxon).

Programs

My World of Learning is licensed to care for 40 children between the ages of 18 months to 12 years.  Children between the ages of 18 months and 5 years are grouped by age in three separate classrooms.  During the summer months, school-aged children between the ages of 5 and 12 years may be in attendance depending on availability of spaces.  Inclusion Support Staff provide extra support to the classrooms so all children can participate fully in the daily program.

The caring, knowledgeable staff provides fun activities and materials in the areas of math, art, science, sensory, fine motor, gross motor and loose parts play that promote learning opportunities for the children. The programming supports the children’s growth and development through play-based activities.  Children play outdoors in the mornings and afternoons.

Meals

The day care provides a lunch and two snacks per day.
